Senior Pastor
Jon’s passion to communicate and lead by example goes back
to what motivates him: a desire to to personalize Jesus’ love and inspire
Christlikeness.
I was a sixties radical and
discovered the only revolution that could change me from the inside out was
Jesus Christ. Jesus radically changed my
life in 1972 and it is Jesus Christ who continues to mould my heart and shape
my life as dramatically today as He did years ago. Jesus inspires me every day.
Jesus is the true shepherd and real pastor of Grace. Our desire is to be like Jesus and inspire
others to know Him as we do, even as the Bible proclaims Him.
With a pastor’s heart and a professor’s head, Jon came to Grace Community
Church in 2000, bringing
twenty-seven years of ministry experience in the church and the classroom. Before
coming to Grace Community, Jon trained men and women for ministry at Western
Seminary in Northern California where he was Associate
Professor of New Testament Literature and Languages as well as Academic Dean.
Earlier, Jon pastored twenty years in South San Francisco
and Modesto in addition to teaching for a number
of colleges and seminaries in California.
Jon and his wife Shelley have been married since 1974 and
they have two children, Jordan and Susanna.
His education includes a B.A., Simpson College;
M.Div., Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary; Ph.D., Golden Gate Baptist
Theological Seminary

Director of Women's Ministries
"My desire is to train and equip the women of Grace Community with God's Word and to encourage them to apply the truth to their daily walk with Christ; in turn affecting all of those around them. It is through that equipping that they become women of service and builders of the body of Christ."

"I am committed to guiding people who come for biblical counseling to base the way they think and live on the truth of God's scripture and to connect them in community at Grace. In men's ministry my goal is to raise men up by giving them tools they can use to lead -not only in their homes but also in the church and in our community."

Children's Ministry Director
"While at Jr. High Winter Camp, I turned my life over to Christ. I prayed that God could use me, an ordinary person, to serve Him. I asked God to use me in some way working with children. He provided me with my hearts desire and I have been serving in the ministry to children for 16 years. I am so thankful God uses ordinary people to do His work here on earth…people like me"

Worship Arts Pastor
"When I was in the seventh grade a recent college graduate, who had sought out the opportunity to teach my church Sunday school class, shared with me how it was possible to communicate with God in a very personal way through reading the Scriptures and through the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Executive Pastor
“In 1980 Jesus Christ came into my life and changed my life completely and brought so many wonderful people into my life to help me to grow in my faith.
It has been my passion since that day to do for others what was done for me. My passion is to share the Gospel of Christ and help people to grow in their faith that they will in turn share their faith with others."
